why no, we do *not* worship Satan...

Here's a great Halloween post from Ma Beck's blog. Very few of our homeschooling friends celebrate Halloween, citing that it is an evil high holiday for Satan worshipers...or something like that. My husband has insisted that we keep it for the kids, and I haven't fought him on it simply because I can't come up with a reason to do so. I grew up trick or treating...so did everyone else I grew up with. I just find it hard to believe that dressing up as cute animals or cartoon characters and collecting mini candy bars is going to lead any of my kids to Satan worship.

I agree with the basic sentiments of some in the movement you are describing, but I don't see it as such a big issue that we have to be isolating ourselves and others over it.

We don't exactly celebrate, but we go to pumpkin patches and dress up for the little thing the AWANAs program puts on for the kids.

One verse that always comes to mind when these conversations gets to heated is this one:

1Co 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

There is no power in these things because there is no God but the one true God.

I don't really understand either Melanie. In California everyone celebrates and it is always something fun for the kids. In Arkansas they act like it is such an evil thing to do. Some of my favorite memmories as a child were from dressing up and getting candy. I don't understand what the fuss is all about either. We love Jesus and we love to dress up and get candy!!

Well, we had a great time celebrating Halloween today, and we are all geared up for All Saints tomorrow. So far we haven't sprouted demon horns or anything... ;)
